Sri Lanka Port Authority
is responsible for the development, management, operation, and control of the ports around Sri Lanka. The main commercial port at the Colombo which is been under expansion is known as the heart of the nation. Since 1918, the Port of Colombo has been administered by the Colombo Port Commission, a Government Department that was made responsible for the supply and maintenance of cargo-handling equipment and other infrastructure, pilotage services, docking, and slipping. The government had funded all its activities. Stevedoring and shore handling activities were in the hands of several private Wharf-age Companies. In 1958, the Port Cargo Corporation was set up to take over these activities performed by a multiplicity of operators. The Port Tally and Protective Services Corporation was formed in 1967 to perform on-board tallying and watchmen services on behalf of Agents.

Vision - To be the driving agency of Sri Lanka to achieve the status of a global maritime and logistics hub.
Mission - To provide world-class port facilities and logistics services to all stakeholders and contribute to national economic development.
1.1 What is Employee Health and Safety?
Health and safety is about preventing harm. It means a safe working environment for every employee. Employee safety is important to maintain a good safe work environment to improve morale and efficiency, which in turn contribute to the growth and profitability of the company. For any organization employee health and safety should be a high priority. If the organization has good health and safety for their employees the organization can increase their productivity, and reduce costs. Health and safety implements for preventing accidents, injuries, and illness in the workplace, this is all about the employee's mental, and physical health and well-being

There are legal backgrounds for employee health and safety. It means health and safety are every employee's basic rights. In Sri Lanka, this is one of the major employment laws, “Factory Ordinance” No.45 of 1942, 22 of 1946. This ordinance makes provisions for the health, safety, and welfare of the workers in factories. All the factories are to be registered with the Department of Labor.
1.2 Main Key Components of the Health and Safety
There are several key elements of health and safety,
1. Hazard identification and assessment - identify hazard works and make sure to minimize the hazard work and evaluate the risk to control it.
2. Training and Education - Providing the knowledge and skills to the employees to learn about workplace risks and how to minimize the risks.
3. Policy - Providing knowledge about the documentation and the legal side of health and safety.
4. Risk Assessment - Make sure to identify the workplace risk and learn about how to control and minimize it.
5. Communication - Developing better communication with the employees about the organization's health and safety plan.
6. Implementation and Organization - Identify the organization's current situation of health and safety and plan to develop it and make sure how to implement it.
7. Reporting - Reporting about the workplace incident, accidents, and the medical condition of the employees
